How might we...

Produce an information and site structure To effectively communicate a substantial amount of foundational information within the constraints of a one-page website.

[01] EVOLVING AS A BUSINESS

In 2024, Solu was a newer company with exciting developments on the horizon. They had spent years building their platform, technology, and were gearing up to enter the next phase of growth: clinical trials. But their site didn't reflect that; it gave a much different impression of the company. Their site was sparse, dated, and most importantly, it gave little to no information about all the progress they had made and the path they were on. This project focused on developing a new site that would help them show up online as a company with promise, that was making progress.

[02] THE TASK

My role on the UX design and strategy side of this project was to evaluate the structure and experience of the current site and then evolve that to fit the needs and goals of the business.

A main challenge and constraint to take into account was that the final product had to be a one-page site. This meant finding ways to balance information depth and breadth with the existing site real estate and UX best practices.

[03]  UX STRATEGY & DESIGN

To start, I conducted interviews with several members of the Solu's leadership team, which helped define the business and science goals for the site. The goal of these interviews was to gain a better understanding of their science and technology, business style, company culture, and future plans in an effort to understand how best to deliver their message on the site.

In this process, it was established that the key stakeholders and their goals were the following:

→ Investors: As part of entering into the next phase of business, Solu would also be entering a funding round. The site would be a resource for both the Solu team and investors to showcase updates to the pipeline and the breadth of the platform; all key and influential information to show during fundraising.

→ Future Employees: As a smaller, younger company, growth is something that is in Solu's future. Potential employees would be coming to the site as roles become available and would be looking for information not only on what Solu does but also who Solu is as a company.

→ Scientific Collaborators: Born out of GSK, Solu was open to the idea of collaborations in the future. Scientific Collaborators, both big and small, would be visiting the site, looking for information about Solu's technology and business as a way to gauge potential collaboration opportunities.

Through synthesizing the results of this stage, I was able to establish and outline the business goals for the site, the audience and their needs, and what UX strategies to employ to address these goals and needs. This information helped guide our content workshop, where the stakeholders and I outlined the structure of the site and what information was needed in each section.

The final product of all this was the following wireframes, which then created the final structure of the updated site.

An impactful Solution . . .

is a site structure & information flow that guides users through key information about the platform, pipeline, and company, enabling them to absorb details that Positively aid them in their decision to collaborate with The Company.

[03] THE FINAL SITE

The final site presents information on their platform, the progress of their lead programs, and provides easily accessible and identifiable information that their key stakeholders are looking for. Investors, future hires, and fellow scientists/biotech companies can more easily discover Solu's areas of focus, the therapies being developed, and the status of different projects in which they could collaborate, work, or invest. As a result, Solu can confidently used their sites as an effective fundraising, collaboration and recruiting tool.

[04] REFLECTIONS

This was a project that required finding a balance and a realistic medium between scope and best practice. In an ideal world, this would have been a multipage site that would allow all the content to sit in its own section and page of a site, allowing users to navigate around and consume information in digestible sections. The constraints of making a one-page site meant that the sections of the site had to be intentional, in both value and placement, the content in those sections needed to be clear & concise, and the page as a whole needed to balance attention-grabbing elements with white space. Since completing this project, Solu has closed a $41M Series A funding round and announced its first patient dosed in a phase 1 clinical trial.
